<p dir="LTR">Nasa is offering The NASA Hubble <a href="https://www.for9a.com/en/opportunity/category/Fellowships">Fellowship</a> Program (NHFP) that provides an opportunity for recent postdoctoral scientists to conduct independent research that contributes to any area of <a href="https://science.nasa.gov/astrophysics" target="_blank">NASA Astrophysics</a>. The research will be carried out at United States host institutions chosen by each fellow, subject to a limitation on the numbers of fellows that can be hosted by anyone institution (see <a href="https://www.stsci.edu/stsci-research/fellowships/nasa-hubble-fellowship-program/announcement-of-opportunity/#HostInstitution">Host Institution</a> below).</p><h3 dir="LTR">Fellowship divisions:</h3><p dir="LTR">The NHFP encompasses the areas of astrophysics previously covered by the NASA Einstein, Hubble, and Sagan Fellowships. To continue the legacy of these programs, fellows will be named as Einstein, Hubble, or Sagan Fellows, depending on which of the three major NASA Astrophysics science questions most closely aligns with their proposed research.</p><ul><li dir="LTR">How Does the Universe Work? - Einstein Fellows</li><li dir="LTR">How Did We Get Here? - Hubble Fellows</li><li dir="LTR">Are We Alone? - Sagan Fellows</li></ul><h3 dir="LTR">Eligibility criteria:</h3><ul><li dir="LTR">The NHFP is open to applicants of any nationality who have earned their doctoral degrees in astronomy, physics, or related disciplines on or after January 1, 2018, or who will receive their degree before September 2021. &nbsp;Applicants with a Ph.D. award date prior to January 1, 2018, maybe eligible in exceptional cases (see below). Graduate-student awardees who have not yet received their doctoral degree at the time of application must present evidence of having completed all requirements for the degree before commencing their fellowships.</li><li dir="LTR">Eligibility of applicants for the 2021 class of NHFP Fellows may extend to those who received their Ph.D. as early as <strong>January 1, 2017</strong>, if professional work was necessarily delayed by personal or family considerations. Such extended eligibility must be justified by emailing<br><a href="mailto:nhfp@stsci.edu">nhfp@stsci.edu</a> <strong>at least 2 weeks in advance</strong> of the application deadline. &nbsp;We realize that many applicants may have had their research programs disrupted by the pandemic. We will take this into account when granting extensions for <em>next</em> year (applicants for the 2022 class). Extensions this year are for people whose ability to put in a successful application <em>last year</em> was affected by their personal or family situation.</li><li dir="LTR">NHFP Fellowships are open to English-speaking citizens of all nations. Qualified applicants will receive consideration without regard to race, creed, color, age, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, veteran status, disability, or national origin. Women and members of minority groups are strongly encouraged to apply.</li></ul><h3 dir="LTR">Funding:</h3><ol><li dir="LTR">The NHFP is administered for NASA by the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI), in collaboration with the NASA Exoplanet Science Institute (NExScI) at the California Institute of Technology and the Chandra X-ray Center at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory. Awards will be made to support each NHFP Fellow through a designated host institution.</li><li dir="LTR">The initial annual stipend for an NHFP Fellow is comparable to that of other prize fellowships and is subject to annual review and adjustment. In addition, the NHFP Fellow will receive support for health insurance, relocation costs, travel, computing services, publications, and other direct research costs. <strong>No additional stipend, salary, or other remuneration may be accepted</strong> from any other appointment (such as teaching), fellowship, or similar grant during the period of the fellowship. Additional honorary named appointments intended to be linked with the title of &quot;Hubble Fellow,&rdquo; &ldquo;Sagan Fellow,&rdquo; or &ldquo;Einstein Fellow&quot; are similarly not allowed.</li><li dir="LTR">Contingent upon the availability of funding, NHFP Fellowships are awarded through grants to host institutions for up to a three-year period. Funding will be provided initially for the first year of the fellowship; renewals for the second and third years will depend on satisfactory annual performance reviews, and the availability of NASA funds.</li></ol><h3 dir="LTR">Required documents:</h3><p>Applicants must submit their materials via a web application form that &nbsp;must include:</p><ul><li>Completed&nbsp;Application Form</li><li>Curriculum vitae</li><li>List of publications</li><li>Summary of previous and current research (limited to three pages in total). &nbsp;Summary section references may be included in the references in the Research Proposal section.</li><li>Research proposal, described below (limited to five pages total including references and figures).</li><li dir="LTR">Please do not attach anything not listed above (reprints, preprints, cover letter, etc.) to your application.</li><li dir="LTR">All materials submitted must be in at least 12-point font, single-spaced, and all pages should be numbered.</li><li dir="LTR">Non-U.S. applicants should make sure that their applications will copy successfully onto 8.5 x 11 inch (21.6 x 28 cm) paper without loss (i.e., with 1-inch margins on all sides). Please keep each file to less than 2 MB.</li><li dir="LTR">Deadline for receipt of reference letters is Thursday, November 12, 2020.
