Opportunity description

The MEST Training Program has been launched for ambitious, driven entrepreneurs with a strong desire to build a scalable software company. It’s a graduate-level, 1-year entrepreneurial course in Business, Communications and Software Development grounded in hands-on projects. Final recruitment takes place in Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, and Cote d'Ivoire.

Requirements:

  1. An entrepreneurial spirit and strong desire to start a company.
  2. Ability to communicate candidly and persuasively.
  3. Ability to work well in teams.
  4. Proven academic excellence.
  5. Demonstrated leadership abilities.
  6. Ability to meet goals and deadlines.
  7. Demonstrated personal drive, stamina, and self-motivation.
  8. Confidence and independent thinking.
  9. Excellent people skills.
  10. While it's not a requirement to have previous coding experience, a strong interest in learning about technology is a must. 
  11. Entrepreneurial or corporate work experience.
  12. A degree from a top university or Technical College (or equivalent experience).

Application timeline:

Phase One:

  1. Application Period: Applications open in the 3rd quarter of each year and close in March the following year
  2. Aptitude Test: Qualified applicants will be invited to take an online aptitude test.
  3. Phone screening: Applicants who pass the test will receive an invitation for a telephone interview with a member of the MEST team.
  4. Interviews: In-person group and individual interviews take place in South Africa in February; and in Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, and Cote d’Ivoire in May each year.

Phase Two:

  1. Offers: Offers are sent out by the end of May each year.
  2. Training Begins: The Training Program starts in August in Accra, Ghana each year.

Funding:

The MEST program is fully funded, including free tuition, room and board, 3 meals per day and a small monthly stipend.
