Opportunity description

CERN Openlab is offering students specializing in subjects related to computer science, mathematics, engineering, or physics the opportunity to join its summer-student program. CERN openlab is a structure designed to create knowledge through research, development, and evaluation of technologies. This knowledge is disseminated through a wide range of channels, from the publication of reports and articles to the organization of workshops and seminars at CERN.

Eligibility:

  1. B.Sc. or M.Sc. student (who will have completed at least three years of full-time studies at the university level by next spring) in computer science, mathematics, engineering, or physics — with a strong computing profile.
  2. Students are interested in working on an advanced ICT project for nine weeks during the period June-September 2020.

Benefits:

  1. A stipend of 90 CHF per day during contractual dates (generally 61 days) is sponsored by CERN and the CERN openlab industrial members and should cover accommodation and living costs during the nine-week stay.
  2. Students are also covered by the CERN health and accident insurance scheme and are offered a travel allowance on a lump-sum basis.

Student Projects:

  • The students participating in the program work on projects related to specific topics, each with a dedicated CERN supervisor. At the end of their stay at CERN, the students produce a report and present their work in a short presentation in the CERN IT department.
  • Reports on previous summer-student projects can be found here.
