The World Forest Institute (WFI) International Fellowship Program hosts natural resource professionals from around the world at the campus in Portland, Oregon for 6 months. Applicants propose a research topic to focus on during their Fellowship, and WFI uses its extensive network of public and private forestry and natural resource professionals to assist Fellows in gaining the knowledge and exposure they seek. 

Eligibility Criteria:

  • You must have a Bachelor’s degree in the field of forestry, natural resources, or other related degrees with experience in relevant work from 3 to 5 years
  • you must be proficient in English especially in writing and speaking to be able to communicate efficiently with the others 
  • You must be at least 21 years of age
  • Ability to be self-motivated, to work independently towards research goal or output and to work with colleagues from diverse backgrounds


The opportunity will cover 50% of the program fees (5000$ USD). Scholarship recipients are responsible for paying for visa fees and traveling costs.

Submissions Stages:

  • As soon as your application is reviewed you will be notified if you are accepted or not. In case you are accepted, you will have a skype interview to talk about your goals for the program to help WFI to decide if the fellowship is the right fit for you. the interview will last for 30 to 45 minutes.
  • Confirm acceptance: if you are accepted, you will receive an e-mail of acceptance with a formal acceptance letter.
  • Submit visa application: as soon as you are accepted, you should apply for the visa for a foreign citizen.
