<p><span data-sheets-userformat='{"2":4224,"10":2,"15":"arial,sans,sans-serif"}' data-sheets-value='{"1":2,"2":"Wellcome Senior Research Fellowships 2020"}'>Wellcome organization announces senior research&nbsp;</span><a href="https://www.for9a.com/en/opportunity/category/Fellowships" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><strong><span data-sheets-userformat='{"2":4224,"10":2,"15":"arial,sans,sans-serif"}' data-sheets-value='{"1":2,"2":"Wellcome Senior Research Fellowships 2020"}'>fellowships</span></strong></a><span data-sheets-userformat='{"2":4224,"10":2,"15":"arial,sans,sans-serif"}' data-sheets-value='{"1":2,"2":"Wellcome Senior Research Fellowships 2020"}'>&nbsp;for 2020 which</span> support independent researchers who are emerging as global leaders in their field and want to tackle the most important questions in science.</p><h1>Senior Research Fellowships</h1><h3>Eligibility:</h3><ul><li>You can apply for a senior research fellowship if you&#39;re already leading your own independent research program and you are an emerging global leader in your field.</li><li>You should have a higher degree (<a href="https://www.for9a.com/en/opportunity/category/Scholarships/PhD" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><strong>PhD</strong></a> or equivalent) and significant research experience.</li><li>You should be able to show:</li></ul><ol><li>You have a track record of holding independent funding such as project, program or fellowship support.</li><li>You have made important contributions to your area of research, for example, publications, patents, software development or an impact on health policy or practice.</li><li>Your work is important, original and has an impact.</li><li>You have a strong rationale for needing a research fellowship rather than taking up an established post.</li><li>You&#39;re committed to developing and mentoring less experienced researchers.</li><li>You must have sponsorship from a head of department or equivalent at an eligible host organization. Your host organization must be located in the <a href="https://www.for9a.com/en/country/United-Kingdom" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><strong>UK</strong></a>, Republic of Ireland or a low- or middle-income country apart from mainland China.</li></ol><p><strong>All research proposals must:</strong></p><ul><li>Be within the science remit.</li><li>Describe an innovative and ambitious program of work.</li><li>Explain the approaches that will be used to deliver that program of work.</li><li>Be distinct from activities already supported by other awards.</li></ul><h3>Funding:</h3><ul><li>A senior research fellowship is typically 5 years but can be up to 7 years if scientifically justified. After this time, you can apply for one renewal of up to 5 years.</li><li>The fellowship may be held on a part-time basis.</li><li><span>If you are a clinical academic, your salary should be appropriate for your clinical status and within the salary scale for academic and senior clinical lecturers.</span></li><li>From year 2 onwards, <span data-sheets-userformat='{"2":4224,"10":2,"15":"arial,sans,sans-serif"}' data-sheets-value='{"1":2,"2":"Wellcome Senior Research Fellowships 2020"}'>Wellcome</span> will automatically increase your salary, based on the current inflation allowance rates.</li><li>Find out more about fellows working on a Wellcome grant from <a href="https://wellcome.ac.uk/funding/guidance/people-working-wellcome-grant" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><strong>here</strong></a>.</li><li>The award includes your salary which includes:</li></ul><ol><li>Your basic salary.</li><li>Employer&rsquo;s contributions, including any statutory obligations (eg national insurance contributions if you&rsquo;re based in the UK) and pension scheme costs)</li><li>Any incremental progression up the salary scale.</li><li>Locally recognized allowances such as the London allowance.</li><li>If Wellcome is going to pay your salary on the grant, you can ask for a visa and work permit costs to help you take up the post at your host organization. You can also ask for:</li></ol><dl><dd tabindex="0"><ul><li>Visa costs for your partner and dependent children.</li><li>Immigration health surcharge costs for you, your partner and dependent children if you will be in the UK for six months or more.</li><li>Essential associated costs, such as travel to attend appointments at a visa application center or embassy if you can justify these.</li></ul><h3>About Wellcome:</h3><p>Wellcome is a politically and financially independent foundation that supports researchers, takes on big health challenges, campaigns for better science and helps everyone get involved with science and health research.
