Opportunity description
The Alexia Foundation offers Student Alexia Grant to enable current college student photographers to produce substantial bodies of work that share the Foundation’s goals of promoting world peace and cultural understanding. Work that helps bring about change is more valued.
Theme:
Student applicants are encouraged to consider proposing projects close to where you are. Foundation’s experience is that the applicant is more likely to produce a successful body of work if he/she can easily access the setting where they will produce the work.
Eligibility:
- Applicants must be actively pursuing a graduate, undergraduate, or associate degree in an accredited college or university in the U.S. or internationally, or have graduated in May 2019, or be currently on an internship.
- Applicants may not apply if you have graduated as of the end of 2018.
- No student who has worked as a professional photographer for more than one (1) year is eligible, including internships that total more than one year.
Award:
The grant is divided into two awards varies between undergraduate and graduate students.
Undergraduate Students Awards:
First Place Award if Recipient is an Undergraduate Student:
This award pays tuition for three undergraduate courses and program fees during a semester at Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.
$1,000 cash grant to help produce the proposed project.
Graduate Students Awards:
First Place if Recipient is a graduate student:
This award pays tuition for three graduate-level classes and program fees during a semester at Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.
$1,000 cash grant to help produce the proposed project.
The two finalists receive: $500 and may attend a Momenta Workshop or MediaStorm Workshop during the calendar year after being named a finalist.
About The Alexia Foundation
A non-profit foundation, established by The family of Alexia Tsairis, who was killed in a plane bombing. Its abiding beliefs are in the capacity and responsibility of individuals to shape and advance peace in our time. Since Alexia’s death, the foundation has awarded over 156 professional and student grants totaling over $1 million dollars in her memory, in order to enable individuals to work for peace.
