KOKUYO Design Award and the Opportunity to Win $18,000 for 2020

KOKUYO invites creative designers and artists to participate in the KOKUYO Design Award for 2019, to define the readings of the “heart emoji”. How to read and interpret this symbol is completely up to the participants to decide with their imaginations. These designs create new value for the company and society as a whole ever since its founding. Although the company focuses on carefully providing stories and scenes in recent years, it has decided to set the theme this year in order to promote the creativity and inspiration of the participants. This design award is an international competition for users in product design, where the best of the best are actually put on the consumer market. 

Eligibility Criteria:

1. The competition accepts entries from any corporation, individual, or group that fulfills all the following requirements, regardless of their age, sex, occupation, or nationality.
2. Persons able to make a presentation at final judging (secondary judging) in Tokyo. (May 14, 2020). 
3. A number of submissions allowed are unlimited.
4. In cases when an entrant is a minor, the consent of their parent or other statutory agent is required.
5. Format: JPEG or PDF.
6. Size: Width 3508 pixels x Height 4961 pixels.
7. Resolution: 300 dpi.
8. Color Mode: RGB.
9. One A3 size page, portrait orientation (width: 297 mm x height: 420 mm). Additional pages will not be accepted.
10. Your application will not be valid if you do not follow the application format.
11. Title of the design: Position on the top left of the page.
12. Type of product Position on the top left of the page (Ex: scissors, stool, etc.).
13. Concept: Position on the top right of the page.
14. Image of the design: Position in the center of the page (Ex: 3D CGI, prototype photograph, drawing, etc.).
15. Technical drawing of the front, top, and side views, with dimensions: Position at the bottom of the page.
16. Do not put any personally identifying information.
17. Entries must be in Japanese or English.
18. Entrants are responsible for making their own models.

Prize: 

1. Grand winner: ¥2,000,000 ($18,000).
2. Merit Award (3 winners): ¥500,000 ($4,500).
3. Special prizes may be awarded.
4. Prize money will be paid net of withholding tax, surtax for reconstruction funding, and other applicable deductions.
5. The organizer will offer up to ¥30,000 (tax included) to help defray the cost of model building for all entrants.
6. The contest organizer will pay expenses incurred by participants for travel and lodging
    (up to two individuals for group entries).
