The University of Canterbury is offering Master’s scholarships in Mechanical Engineering for 2019-2020, which was established in 2000 by a gift from CWF Hamilton & Co Ltd. Today, the company employs over 380 staff in all aspects of waterjet design, production and service. Along with the marine jet units, the company also produces its own electronic and hydraulic control systems. The company has recently celebrated its 75th year Anniversary and is looking towards strong growth in the future.
Eligibility Criteria:
- By 10 December in the year of application for the scholarship, applicants must have met the academic requirements for enrolment in a program for an ME degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- The scholarship is tenable for an enrolment of up to 120 points, by full-time and part-time1 students who are enrolled in a program for an ME degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University.
- Every recipient not already enrolled in a program for an ME degree in Mechanical Engineering should normally be enrolled in that program by 31 March in the year following the year of application. A recipient who is unable to enrol by that deadline must seek permission from the Dean of Engineering to take up the scholarship at a later date. Without this permission the award will be terminated.
- The scholarship must be taken up in the year following the year of application. In no case will tenure commence, or be backdated to an enrolment date, prior to 1 January of the year following the year of application.
- In making its recommendation the committee will consider: Academic achievement; and potential to contribute to research in Mechanical Engineering.
- If, in any year, there is no applicant of sufficient merit, no award will be made.
- In the event of a recipient's withdrawal from enrolment in a program for an ME degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University during the term of the scholarship, the scholarship will be withdrawn, and any paid funds may be recovered.
Scholarship Amount:
One scholarship, providing financial assistance to a value of $16,500,1 is available annually. The scholarship will be paid to a recipient’s nominated New Zealand bank account, in equal monthly instalments. The first instalment will be made as soon as practicable after the recipient has accepted the scholarship and after the Scholarships Office has confirmed the recipient’s enrolment in a program for an ME degree in Mechanical Engineering. A recipient may elect to pay tuition and compulsory fees from the scholarship. Any balance will be paid in monthly instalments, by direct credit to a recipient’s nominated New Zealand bank account.
