Opportunity description
The University of Houston (UHV) invites all undergraduate and graduate international students to apply for the International Student Merit Scholarship for 2019. The awards and waivers are available for fall recipients for the fall, spring and summer semester, and for the spring recipients, the waivers will be awarded for spring and summer semesters for full-time programs.
Applicants must:
[1] Apply for the scholarship before being admitted to the University of Houston as a full-time, degree-seeking student. They can also be already admitted and registered for full-time (minimum of 12 credits for undergraduate and minimum of 9 credits for graduate)
[2] Have F-1 or J-1 student visa
[3] Be in good academic and immigration status ( for US transfer international students)
[4] Have demonstrated record of academic achievement
[5] Attend the mandatory international student orientation and plan to arrive at the university 5 business days prior to the first day of classes
[6] Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 for undergraduate students and cumulative GPA of 3.0 for graduate students throughout the duration of the scholarship
[7] Contribute 10 volunteer hours every semester (fall and spring) to the community of the university, showcasing/sharing their culture
[8] Pay all other fees such as program fees, course fees, housing costs, international student fee, medical insurance costs, books and supplies. The scholarship only applies to tuition associated fees
[9] Pay all outstanding university bills on or before the due dates
Students who are not eligible:
[1] Graduate students receiving a graduate assistantship or tuition scholarship
[2] UHV Athletes receiving Athletics Scholarships
[3] Students receiving International Student Cultural Scholarship
[4] Students receiving any other UHV tuition scholarship
[5] Students receiving any other UHV competitive scholarships
[6] Students on other non-immigrant visa categories
Value of scholarship:
The scholarship will reduce the student’s tuition and fees cost to reflect the residency tuition rate. Other costs such as housing, meals, transportation, personal expenses, books, supplies, and health insurance are not included in this scholarship.
