Opportunity description
In cooperation with the University of Kaiserslautern, DAAD has initiated a PhD programme in "Mathematics in Industry and Commerce," which provides a unique chance for students from developing countries to profit from the academic and research resources of the University of Kaiserslautern.
The research focus of this specific programme is the application of modern mathematical theories (partial differential equations, stochastics, etc.) to model technological, economical, and ecological problems. Computer-oriented numerical methods (FEM, optimization, statistics, computer algebra, etc.) are used to evaluate the models.
Admission Requirements
- Excellent Master's degree in Mathematics or closely related scientific field
- Language proficiency in English
- Being a citizen of a developing country (according to the DAC list of the OECD)
Programme Duration
The completion of the PhD programme takes three years. It starts in August with the Integration and Language Course.
German Language Knowledge

Students from foreign countries have to pass a German language test after the first year to be allowed to continue their enrollment. German language courses are offered in the Language and Integration Course and continue during the semester.
