Opportunity description

The University of Nottingham invites African students whose first language is not English to apply for the High Achiever Foundation Prize for Africa to study Engineering and Physical Sciences for the academic year 2019-2020. The Engineering Foundation Certificate is a one-year, full-time course, designed for international students whose first language is not English and whose school-leaving qualifications do not allow immediate admission to undergraduate engineering and computer science degree programs in the UK. Applicants will study mathematics and engineering subjects, which are appropriate for their chosen undergraduate degree. Options in Computer Science may also be included. This will provide you with an appropriate background to enter the first year of a degree program in engineering or computer science. The programs include:

Engineering:

  1. Architecture and Built Environment.
  2. Chemical and Environmental Engineering.
  3. Civil Engineering.
  4. Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
  5. Mechanical, Materials, Manufacturing Engineering.

Physical Sciences:

  1. Computer Science.
  2. Mathematical Sciences.
  3. Physics and Astronomy.

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. Applicants must be nationals of (or permanently domiciled in) an African country.
  2. Applicants must be classed as overseas students for fee purposes .
  3. Applicants must already hold an offer to start on the Engineering and Physical Sciences Foundation Certificate at Nottingham in September 2019. they must have gone firm on that offer by 28 June 2019.
  4. IELTS 5.5 (with no less than 5.0 in any element).
  5. Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application within six weeks of the closing date.
  6. Students will only be eligible to receive this high achiever prize if they meet the conditions of their academic offer.

Scholarship Amount:

The University of Nottingham will offer £2,000 each towards tuition fees to students from Africa for the first year only. Students benefit from a wide range of teaching and learning styles – from traditional seminars, lectures and tutorials to state-of-the-art multimedia and electronic learning systems.
