Opportunity description

Taawon Foundation invites Palestinian youth seeking to establish or develop innovative projects within the concept of entrepreneurship and society to participate in the “Taawon’s Youth Award: Mounir Al Kalouti Award for Young Entrepreneurs, for Creating a Better Tomorrow” for 2019. In recognition of the fundamental role of the Palestinian youth and its importance in the development of the Palestinian society, and in continuation of its approach to honoring the Palestinian youth and their creations, the Foundation, sponsored by Mr. Mounir Al Kalouti, has established this annual prize for Palestinians since 2012. It aims to support young people in achieving their aspirations and initiatives, which includes developed models leading the Palestinian youth to achieve more and to progress. The objectives of the award include:

  1. To strengthen the resistance of the Palestinian youth on their land and in the refugee camps in Lebanon, and to enhance their self-confidence and potential.
  2. To promote the concept of entrepreneurship and social entrepreneurship and to build profitable and pioneering business initiatives in order to encourage Palestinian youth to participate in social work to provide solutions to the problems of their society. 
  3. To encourage thought, excellence and generate creative Palestinian youth initiatives. 
  4. To motivate the Palestinian youth to move towards the concept of entrepreneurship.
  5. Spreading the spirit of positive competition among young people in search for creative business ventures.

Qualifications:

  1. Participants must be Palestinians.
  2. Participants must be between 18-40 years old.
  3. Participants must be residents of the Foundation’s areas of work (West Bank including Jerusalem, Gaza, 1948 areas or Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon).
  4. They should currently seek to establish an initiative that is expected to have clear developmental implications (economic or social) or have a small initiative that they wish to develop, but should not exceed one year.
  5. Participants must not have received other awards for the same initiative from other institutions. 
  6. Participants must sign a document that indicates that the initiative has not received any prizes previously, and that the initiative is under development, and that they are initiators. If they are a group, they must submit copies of their IDs. 
  7. Participants can enter the competition either individually (one entrepreneur), provided that the initiative has as working group (the members of the supporting group must be mentioned).
  8. Participants can enter the competition as groups (of two or more leading individuals participating in the same initiative), with one member of the group delegated to be the president and commissioner of the group to follow up the initiative with the Foundation, including the financial matters.

Award Value:

The total prize is $50,000 in addition to an honorary shield bearing the name of the winner and the logo of the Foundation, divided between a maximum of 5 initiatives ($10,000 per prize). Half of the amount will be disbursed after the announcement of winning the prize, and the other half after starting the implementation of the initiative within the mechanisms presented later, taking into account the consideration of each project separately.
