Opportunity description

UN Volunteers platform is offering an online volunteer opportunity, as it is looking for 3 online volunteers experienced in writing and editing articles and stories to join communications team and help enhance our online presence. The volunteer will work with the team to plan, edit and schedule stories (volunteer stories, case studies etc) for our website editorial calendar on a weekly basis. 

The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme contributes to peace and development through volunteerism worldwide. We work with partners to integrate qualified, highly motivated and well supported UN Volunteers into development programming and promote the value and global recognition of volunteerism. UNV is administered by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). UNV East and Southern Africa Regional Office covers 23 countries in in East and Southern Africa region. Going into the next half of the year, we aim to enhance our digital presence on social media and our website. The online volunteers will be fully credited for their collaboration and a certificate of satisfaction will be issued at the end of the collaboration and will enhance their professional experience while partaking these assignment. 

Volunteer duration and working hours:

20+ hours per week for 24 weeks.

Eligibility criteria:

  1. Strong storytelling and writing skills; 
  2. Commitment and availability is key; 
  3. Experience in using web-based content management systems a plus.
  4. Knowledge of both French and English is also an added advantage. 
  5. Ability to communicate in English.

Volunteer task:

  • The volunteer be expected to conduct relevant research on best practices in story telling and package the stories in line with UNV's editorial standards. 
  • The volunteer will be expected to develop and report on an editorial plan which includes goals, objectives and measurable workload indicators and shall be provided with documentations to support the assignment.
