Opportunity description

UN Volunteers platform is offering an online volunteer opportunity, as The Lockdown Economy is collecting insights from small business owners and self-employed professionals from different business sectors and countries to see how the COVID-19 pandemic affected their business, their life and future. Based on these insights, we are preparing several articles about the specific challenges small businesses face today and ways to help them. This topic is not covered by Encyclopedic sources yet. To bring the attention of policy-makers and the public to the issues of small businesses during COVID-19, we need to publish our insights on a well-read and SEO-optimized resource such as open encyclopedia - Wikipedia. We are looking for an Online Volunteer who has previously published Wikipedia pages/articles.

The Lockdown Economy is an international non-profit grassroots social-economic and educational initiative, organized by Think Tank AlterContacts in May '20, to help small businesses and self-employed professionals overcome the challenges of the pandemic and reactivate the economy. Registered by the UN as an Acceleration Action for SDG. The insights we gather allow the think tank to develop learning materials to help entrepreneurs in the 'new normal'. We plan to run academic research based on our findings and impact. To achieve the full potential of this initiative and to ensure that we can reach our beneficiaries with the information we collected, we need to make it accessible through highly visible resources, such as Wikipedia.

Volunteer duration and working hours:

1-5 hours per week for 6 weeks.

Eligibility criteria:

You qualify if you are an Online Volunteer with experience in Verified Wikipedia Edition and Wikipedia Page Creation;

at least 2 years of experience on Wikipedia;

you have a proven track record of successfully published articles and pages on Wikipedia.

Your level of English is sufficient to make necessary edits to already written articles.

Volunteer task:

Your task will be to create a Wikipedia entry for the articles about small business. That includes validating citations and references; adjusting the drafts according to the Wikipedia guidelines; encoding all the information in Wikipedia code at the backstage of the article.
