Wellcome PhD Senior Research Fellowships 2020

Wellcome is offering a fellowship opportunity to a PhD researcher who are already leading your own independent research programme and you are an emerging global leader in your field.  You should be able to show you have made important contributions to your area of research, for example publications, patents, software development or an impact on health policy or practice

Eligibility Criteria:

• You can apply for a Senior Research Fellowship if you're already leading your own independent research programme and you are an emerging global leader in your field.
• You should have a higher degree (PhD or equivalent) and significant research experience.
• You should be able to show:

1. you have a track record of holding independent funding such as project, programme or fellowship support
2. you have made important contributions to your area of research, for example publications, patents, software development or an impact on health policy or practice
3. your work is important, original and has impact
4. you have a strong rationale for needing a research fellowship rather than taking up an established post
5. you're committed to developing and mentoring less experienced researchers.

Funding:

1. A basic salary (determined by your host organisation)
2. A fellowship supplement of £12,500 
3. Personal removal expenses
4. Research expenses, including research staff

Duration of funding:

Typically 5 years, but can be up to 7 years if a strong scientific justification is provided

Research proposal:

All research proposals must:

• be within their science remit
• describe an innovative and ambitious programme of work
• explain the approaches that will be used to deliver that programme of work
• be distinct from activities already supported by other awards.

July 2020 round

• Shortlisting: September 2020
• Interviews: 1–3 December 2020
