The Australia and New Zealand School of Government (ANZSOG) proudly announces the launch of applications for the 2026 ANZSOG Academic Fellowships, welcoming scholars passionate about public governance research, academic collaboration, and the impact of policy in practice.

This second round of the ANZSOG Academic Fellows Program offers short-term fellowship opportunities for Semester 1 and Semester 2 in 2026 available in the following streams:

  • Resident Academic Fellowships: Exclusively open to academics from ANZSOG Partner Universities.
  • Visiting Academic Fellowships: Open to researchers from other Australian, New Zealand, and international universities.

Type of Funding


Funding benefits vary depending on the type of fellowship:

  1. Resident Fellows:

  • Duration: 4 to 6 months.

  • Financial Support: Provides up to AUD 37,300, used to reduce teaching load or support alternative research activities.

  • Funding Model: Financial support is given to academic institutions to reduce teaching duties, allowing the fellow to work part-time with ANZSOG.

  1. Visiting Fellows:

  • Duration: 1 to 3 months.

  • Financial Support: Provides a contribution of up to AUD 8,000 to cover travel and accommodation expenses.

  • Institutional Support: Offers workspace at ANZSOG locations in Sydney or Melbourne, along with access to academic and professional networks.

Eligibility criteria

  • Be an academic at one of ANZSOG’s partner universities (for Resident Fellows), working at least 50% full-time at the start of the fellowship.

  • Hold a PhD degree in a field related to public governance or public administration.

  • Have at least 5 years of experience post-PhD, with consideration given to any career breaks as necessary.

  • For Visiting Academic Fellows: must be an academic at a university in Australia, New Zealand, or an international institution and hold a valid visa if applying from abroad.

  • Research or teaching focus must be related to public governance, policy, or public administration.

  • Availability to commit to the fellowship for a period ranging from 1 to 6 months depending on the fellowship type (resident or visiting).
