Opportunity description

The DAAD Development-Related Postgraduate Courses (EPOS) is a fully funded postgraduate scholarship provided by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
The program supports graduates from developing and newly industrialized countries who want to pursue master’s or doctoral degrees in development-related fields at German state-recognized universities.

 Objectives

  • Promote sustainable development through higher education

  • Strengthen professional and academic capacity in partner countries

  • Support international cooperation and development-focused research

  • Train future leaders in key development sectors

Fields of Study

DAAD EPOS funds selected development-related postgraduate courses, which may include economics, governance, environmental management, engineering, health systems, public policy, agriculture, social sciences, and related fields.

Location & Duration

  • Study location: Germany

  • Degrees supported: Master’s (12–24 months) and PhD (up to ~42 months)

Application Timeline & Deadlines

There is no single universal deadline for the EPOS Scholarship — deadlines vary by university and selected course.

However, the official EPOS deadlines list shows:

  • Some EPOS course applications open around June 1, 2025

  • Many deadlines run until mid- to late-2025

Important: You must apply directly to the university offering your chosen course before that program’s deadline — not centrally to DAAD. After nomination, DAAD processes the applications.

Benefits

The DAAD EPOS Scholarship is fully funded and typically includes:

  • Monthly stipend (e.g., ~€992 for Master’s / ~€1,300–€1,400 for PhD*)

  • Health, accident, and personal liability insurance

  • Travel allowance (round-trip airfare)

  • Monthly rent subsidy in some cases

  • Family and accompanying support where applicable

*Amounts depend on academic level and adjustments in specific years

Eligibility criteria

You can apply if you:

  • Are from a developing or newly industrialized country (eligibility lists apply)

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (often four-year degree)

  • Have at least two years of relevant professional experience after your first degree

  • Have strong academic performance and a motivation related to development

  • Meet language proficiency requirements (English and/or German) where needed
