Opportunity description
The Ithra Film Fund offers financial support to cover production and filming costs, helping transform film projects from written scripts into works ready for production and screen execution. Funding is available for fiction films, documentaries, and animated films, including both short and feature-length projects.
The grant operates through a co-financing model, meaning the Ithra Film Fund does not fully finance the project on its own. Applicants must demonstrate that another portion of the production budget has already been secured from approved funding sources.
Benefits
- Funding of up to USD 50,000 for short films.
- Funding of up to USD 150,000 for feature-length films.
- Full retention of the film’s intellectual property rights.

- The funding is disbursed in three installments:
- 25% after proof that the full co-financing amount has been secured.
- 50% at the start of principal photography.
- 25% after submission and approval of the Rough Cut.
Eligibility criteria
Applicants may include:
- Licensed and officially registered Saudi production companies.
- International production companies, provided they have an official co-production agreement with a licensed Saudi production company or a Saudi / legally resident co-producer in the Kingdom.
- Independent filmmakers and directors, provided the application is submitted under the umbrella of a production company that meets the eligibility requirements.
- The project’s principal photography must not have been completed before applying.
- The project must have an authentic Saudi identity and story and meet at least two of the required Saudi identity and context criteria.
- At least 50% of the scenes must be filmed in Saudi Arabia, or the main portion of the animation work must be produced locally, if this condition is being used as one of the eligibility criteria.
- The application and supporting documents must be submitted in Arabic or English.
