Opportunity description
Ghent University is offering a Phd Fellowship for international students all over the world. The fellowship includes a Phd position in the framework of the research project : Enzymares (VLAIO intercluster).
About the Project:-
- In this project, a proteomics and bioinformatics toolbox will be developed for the discovery of novel enzymes from marine microorganisms that can be applied in food or chemical industry as green catalysts.
- The PhD student will be engaged in discovery (assays, chemical proteomics), (recombinant) production, purification and testing of enzymes and will work in a team with a postdoctoral fellow that will be simultaneously engaged (microbial genomics).
Eligibility criteria
- A Master degree in Biochemistry and Biotechnology or related, completed before the start of the position.
- Experience in the field of protein biochemistry and microbiology is greatly appreciated.
- Holders of a PhD degree in life sciences will not be considered.
- Scientific knowledge and skills.
- Knowledge of protein biochemistry and microbiology.
- Hands on experience in microbial cultivation and genetic engineering.
- Knowledge about proteomics approaches.
- Ability to rigorously design experiments and to perform experiments under well-controlled conditions.
- Ability to rigorously design and perform experiments in a result-oriented and thorough manner.
- Ability to perform in-depth and critical data analysis.
- Ability to communicate through high-quality scientific channels, e.g. WoS publications (A1).
- Personal knowledge and skills
- A strong interest in inter/multi-disciplinary applied science.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with team members from different backgrounds and in different research areas.
- Excellent skills for time management and the ability to meet objectives within strictly set deadlines.
- Good oral and written communication skills in English are strictly required (C1 level).
- Demonstrated ability to work efficiently and precisely.
- Willingness to travel internationally for project meetings and conferences.
- You must be available to start the project on September 1st 2021.
