Opportunity description
Berliner Künstlerprogram is now accepting Applications for Filmmakers, Writers and Composers/Sound Artists for its residency fellowship. Every year since 1963, around twenty internationally recognized cultural producers of all ages who have developed a distinctive creative practice and have already produced a substantial body of work in the field of visual arts, film, literature, or music have been invited to spend twelve months living and working in Berlin. Invitations to filmmakers are issued for six months.
The residency is not a grant to support cultural producers who are still studying or have recently graduated. Candidates in the field of visual arts are nominated and selected by an expert jury; for this reason, applications may not be submitted in this field.
Benefits
DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program fellowship awards comprise the
- following benefits:
- Monthly grant installments for living expenses and rent
- Provision of a furnished apartment
- Travel and baggage expenses (regular airline, economy class), also for spouse and children who will be staying in Berlin for the entire duration of the invitation
- If required: health, accident and long-term care insurance (contributions will be deducted from the fellowship award)
- German language lessons (optional)
Eligibility criteria
- The application process is open to artists of all ages working in the fields of literature, music & sound and film who can demonstrate an outstanding, unique artistic position and a substantial body of work.
- German nationals may not apply.
- Residents of the Federal Republic of Germany may not apply regard-less of their nationality.
- German nationals (incl. dual nationals) living abroad may only apply if they can credibly prove that their main place of residence lies within the country from which they are applying – as a guideline a minimum stay of six years is required.
- Applications for the visual arts division are not accepted; internationally renowned artists are recommended and invited by an expert panel.
