Opportunity description

The University of Queensland (UQ) and Queensland Health are collaborating to offer a coordinated set of scholarships for doctoral students keen to help transform the health system with digital health. This partnership specifically aims to:

  • attract three outstanding PhD students to produce new research on digital health topics of central importance to Queensland Health and nationally.
  • support these students through an interdisciplinary and cohort-based experience that is well-governed by UQ and Queensland Health. A project officer will assist with the coordination of the Project to ensure it operates successfully and that the students and researchers involved are supported.

Students from any disciplinary background are welcome to apply. The scholarship is not limited to any particular enrolling unit (e.g., school) across the university.

Scholarship duration:

3.5 years with the possibility of 1 extension in line with UQ and RTP Scholarship Policy

Benefits

$29,863 per annum (2023 rate) and $17,000 top-up per annum, plus $5,000 development allowance.

Eligibility criteria

  • You're eligible if you meet the entry requirements for a higher degree by research.
  • In addition to the normal HDR entry requirements, you will be required to submit a preliminary proposal of your project. The preliminary proposal will outline the following items (within five single-spaced pages) which will be assessed by the selection panel (comprising members of the Alliance Control Group).
  1. What is the problem you seek to address?
  2. Based on your knowledge of the current state of digital health in Queensland, why is this problem critical to address now?
  3. Is the subproject you wish to conduct likely to be overarching or transferrable? (Please see the descriptions provided earlier). Why?
  4. Who could be your supervisors on the subproject?
  • To show feasibility, we encourage you to try to identify advisors from at least two of the following three areas: a clinical discipline (from either Medicine or Health and Behavioural Science), a business/economics discipline (from the UQ Business School, School of Economics, or the Centre for the Business and Economics of Health), and an information technology related discipline (e.g., School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering (ITEE) or Maths and Physics). If you are unsure of specific supervisors at the time of your application, you may contact the Project Manager (Vilma Simbag v.simbag@uq.edu.au) for temporary suggestions for the purpose of your application.
  • What benefits would your subproject offer if conducted successfully?
  • How does your track record indicate that you can conduct the subproject successfully
  • For Selection criteria check scholarship page.
