Hayama Artist Residency in Japan is accepting applications for a funded 4-week international artist residency in the coastal town of Hayama, Kanagawa Prefecture.
The residency aims to introduce visual artists from around the world to Japanese culture while providing them with time and space to rest, research, reflect, and develop their creative vision. Participants will also have the opportunity to take part in a group exhibition in Japan during the residency period.
The residency will take place from June 1 to June 30, 2027. It is suitable for artists seeking an experience that combines artistic residency, cultural exchange, exposure to Japanese society, and networking with artists and art professionals.
Participants are not required to produce a new artwork during the residency, as the period may instead be used for research, reflection, or the development of new ideas.

Selected artists receive:
- Round-trip international airfare to either Narita or Haneda Airport in Japan.
- Accommodation for 4 weeks.
- A private bedroom for each artist within shared accommodation.

Eligibility criteria
Applicants are eligible if they:
- Are a visual artist.
- Are over 21 years old.
- Work in any visual art medium or discipline.
- Reside in any country worldwide.
- There are no restrictions based on nationality, ethnicity, gender, culture, or religion.
- Are able to submit the application in English.
