Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (SWUFE) in Chengdu, China, offers the One-Semester Study Program under the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship. It is one of the cultural exchange and short-term educational residency programs that combine Chinese language study with direct immersion in Chinese culture, society, and university life.
The program begins in March 2027 and lasts for up to 5 months, giving participants the opportunity to experience a short-term international program in China. This includes studying in a Chinese university environment, interacting with local and international students, practicing the language in daily life, and gaining first-hand exposure to the traditions, culture, and everyday life of Chengdu.
Available study tracks include Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (TCSOL), Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese History, and Chinese Philosophy, making the program suitable for those who want to combine academic learning, intercultural exchange, and a short-term educational stay without enrolling in a full bachelor’s or master’s degree program.

Eligibility criteria
Applicants must:
- Be non-Chinese citizens.
- Be in good physical and mental health.
- Have no criminal record.
- Comply with Chinese laws and university regulations.
- Be interested in the Chinese language, Chinese language education, or related fields.
- Be between 16 and 35 years old as of September 1, 2026.
- The maximum age may be extended to 45 years for currently employed Chinese language teachers.
- For the TCSOL, Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese History, and Chinese Philosophy tracks, hold HSK Level 3 with a minimum score of 180 and submit an HSKK score.
- Not have received a similar scholarship within the previous three years when applying for the one-semester study track.
