Elizabeth A-i-R announces an open call for photographers and artists working in the medium of photography to apply for a one-month residency grant in Budapest in 2022.
Programme Topics:-
- Changing urban environments, urban resilience.
- History, heritage, politics and social conflict.
- Issues related to Central European identity.
Benefits
- Upon arrival to Budapest the artist will be granted a fee of 1000 euro for living expenses and another 1000 euro for the production of a pop-up exhibition at a downtown Budapest venue. Elizabeth A-i-R covers travel expenses up to 500 euro. The artist will be responsible for the appropriate use of the grant, and is required to write an invoice.
- The resident will be living and working in the 200 square meter, two-storey studio apartment. The studio consists of two rooms, bathroom, kitchen and a well-lit west facing studio space. The apartment is equipped with mobile internet. The resident will have access to the library, canteen, shared office space, photo studio and negative lab at MOME.
- The resident artist will be offered mentorship and consultation possibility with teachers of the Photography program at MOME. The resident may rent or use equipment of MOME TechPark upon request.
Eligibility criteria
- The resident artist has to spend a minimum of 30 days in Budapest to work on the proposed photographic project which will be presented at the end of the residency in a form agreed upon by the artist and the organizers fitting within the sum allocated for the production.
- The artist will take part in the following activities open to the wider public:
- A 40 minute artist-talk at MOME.
- An open studio afternoon for local residents.
- A guided-tour or presentation of the closing exhibition.
- A part of the work produced by the artist during the residency will be offered to the archive of Elizabeth A-i-R.

The Elizabeth A-i-R is initiated in collaboration with the municipality of Erzsébetváros and Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design Budapest. In the heart of Budapest, the Elizabeth Artist-in-Residence program offers a spacious studio space which carries the rich memory of its former inhabitants who often used photography addressing the ephemeral and the latent.
