Opportunity description

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is accepting applications for a funded national volunteer opportunity for the position of Skills Development Assistant in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, under the Knowledge Project, which is implemented by UNDP in partnership with the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation (MBRF). The assignment will last for 3 months, with the possibility of extension, and will be full-time and on-site at the United Nations office.

This is one of the funded United Nations volunteering opportunities suitable for individuals interested in skills development, education, programme management, learner monitoring, data analysis, communications, and event organization. The Knowledge Project aims to strengthen the production and use of knowledge to support sustainable human development through initiatives such as the Global Knowledge Index and the Future Skills Academy.

Duties & responsibilities

  • Monitor learners’ progress and activity on the platform.
  • Coordinate registrations, licenses, programme pathways, and access to learning content.
  • Provide daily support to learners in both Arabic and English via email, Telegram, Zoom, and other communication channels.
  • Update records and data related to learners, partners, and associated documentation.
  • Prepare progress reports, datasets, presentation content, and communication materials.
  • Support data tracking and analysis to monitor programme performance and inform decision-making.
  • Coordinate Future Skills Academy activities, sessions, and workshops.
  • Support learner engagement initiatives, including alumni activities and skills-related dialogues.
  • Contribute to organizing major events such as the Knowledge Summit.
  • Support communication and coordination with partners, follow up on action items, and maintain documentation.
  • Contribute to collaboration with academic partners and track discussions related to programme development.
  • Provide operational and coordination support for initiatives related to the academy.

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be between 18 and 60 years old.
  • Be a UAE citizen, a legal resident of the UAE, or hold refugee status in the country.
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in International Development, Economics, Communications, or another relevant or equivalent field.
  • Have at least one year of relevant experience.
  • Be fluent in English.
  • Be fluent in Arabic.
  • Working knowledge of French is considered an asset.
  • Have strong writing, editing, and communication skills in both Arabic and English.
  • Have excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Experience working with international organizations is considered a significant advantage.
  • Knowledge of United Nations processes or the development sector is considered an asset.
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Have knowledge of statistical analysis software such as STATA or similar tools.
  • Basic design skills using Canva, Adobe Illustrator, or Photoshop are considered an advantage.
