Opportunity description
UNICEF offers a national volunteering opportunity in Iraq through the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme under the title Social Protection Officer.
This opportunity aims to support UNICEF’s social protection programme in Iraq and contribute to developing more inclusive, fair, and crisis-responsive social protection systems that help the most vulnerable children and families access better services. The assignment will last for 12 months in Baghdad, with the possibility of extension.

Duties & responsibilities
- Support the implementation and follow-up of national social protection priorities in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
- Contribute to preparing and following up on roadmaps for implementing the social protection strategy.
- Support research and assessments related to social protection, including the assessment of adolescent mothers.
- Assist in collecting and analyzing data and disseminating findings to support policy and programme development.
- Support capacity-building activities for government entities by organizing trainings and workshops.
- Contribute to the implementation and expansion of cash transfer programmes in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
- Coordinate meetings, workshops, consultations, and events related to the social protection programme.
- Prepare agendas, presentations, meeting minutes, and follow-up points.
- Support administrative and logistical operations, including procurement, contracting, and programme requests.
- Coordinate with government entities, UN agencies, development partners, and civil society organizations.
Eligibility criteria
- The applicant must be between 18 and 60 years old.
- The applicant must be an Iraqi national, legally residing in Iraq, or have refugee status in the country of assignment.
- The applicant must have at least 7 years of professional experience.
- The applicant must hold a bachelor’s degree in one of the following or related fields:
- Social policy.
- Public policy.
- Economics.
- Development studies.
- Public administration.
- Social sciences.
- International development.
- Political science.
- The applicant must be fluent in both Arabic and English.
- Knowledge of Kurdish is considered an additional advantage.
- The applicant must have experience in social protection, social policy, programme management, public sector reform, or public administration.
- Previous experience with the United Nations or an international development organization is preferred.
- The applicant must have strong skills in writing, report preparation, communication, coordination, and working in a multicultural environment.
