Opportunity description
Applications are open for the Getty Pre- and Postdoctoral Fellowships 2026-2027. These fellowships are meant for emerging researchers working on projects aligned with the Scholars Program’s annual theme. While in residence, fellows may engage in research projects, complete dissertations, or expand dissertations for publication.
There are designated grants for fellows expanding critical studies of African American art as part of the Getty’s African American Art History Initiative (AAAHI). All recipients are encouraged to utilize the Getty Research Institute (GRI) collections, attend weekly lectures, and participate in intellectual life at Getty. Predoctoral Fellows may be based at the Getty Center, while Postdoctoral Fellows may stay at the Getty Center or Getty Villa.
Fellowship benefits provide a nine-month residency from late September to late June. Getty Predoctoral Fellows receive a stipend of $30,000, while Postdoctoral Fellows receive $35,000. The grant also includes workspace at the Getty Research Institute or Getty Villa, a travel stipend, residence at the Getty scholar housing complex, and available healthcare options. These terms are effective from July 2024 and may be subject to future modifications.
