Opportunity description

The Fulbright Commission in Jordan offers the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship for Jordanian professionals in mid-career, with the aim of developing their leadership and professional skills through an academic, professional, and cultural experience in the United States. The program focuses on building the capacities of leaders and professionals from different countries, promoting cultural exchange, and developing solutions to global challenges in areas such as human rights, sustainable development, community building, and institutional development.

The program is not designed to lead to an academic degree. Instead, it focuses on professional development, leadership training, networking with American experts and institutions, and participating in academic and professional activities at one of the host universities in the United States.

Eligibility criteria

  • The applicant must be residing in Jordan at the time of application and must continue to reside in Jordan until the start of the program in the United States.
  • The applicant must hold an undergraduate university degree.
  • The applicant must have at least 5 years of full-time professional experience after obtaining their first university degree and before June 2028.
  • The applicant must have administrative or policy-related responsibilities within their field of work.
  • The applicant must have a proven level of English proficiency.
  • The applicant must have a professional background in one of the approved fields under the Humphrey Fellowship Program.
  • Dual Jordanian-American citizens or holders of U.S. permanent residency, “Green Card”, are not eligible to apply.
  • Individuals who participated in a U.S. government-funded exchange program during the last 3 years before the start of the program are not eligible to apply.
  • Individuals who studied at a graduate school in the United States for one academic year or more during the last 7 years are not eligible to apply.
  • Individuals who spent more than 6 months in the United States during the last 5 years are not eligible to apply.
  • Employees of the Fulbright Commission, the U.S. Embassy, or the U.S. Department of State, as well as their immediate family members, are not eligible to apply.

English Language Requirement

  • Applicants must submit a TOEFL iBT or TOEFL ITP test score.
  • The minimum required scores are:
    • TOEFL iBT: 72
    • TOEFL ITP: 543
  • The test score must be attached to the application to ensure that it is complete.
  • If the applicant has taken the TOEFL test within the last two years, they may submit their most recent score.
