Opportunity description

IA Interior Architects established the IA Interior Architects Diversity in Design Scholarship in partnership with the IIDA Foundation to support and elevate minority students that represent diverse voices in interior design, with the goal of increasing representation and equity of thought and practice across the industry. A diverse design community drives innovation and inclusion by incorporating varying experiences, voices, and ideas, and as a key part of the future of design, minority students should be a major force pushing the industry towards more diverse and inclusive workplaces.

Benefits

Six (6) total scholarships will be awarded: one $5,000 scholarship, one $3,000 scholarship, and four $500 scholarships. Graduate and undergraduate minority students who are currently enrolled in an interior design or architecture programs worldwide are encouraged to apply.

Eligibility criteria

  1. This scholarship award is open to minority graduate and undergraduate students who are currently enrolled in an interior design or architecture programs worldwide.
  2. For the 2022 essay topic, we're asking minority students to challenge the design industry and education system to make some actual change. In a brief essay of up to 500 words, what actionable steps would you like to see the profession take to make universities and design firms more equitable places, and what changes would have the biggest impact on minority students looking to enter the field?
  3. All submissions must be submitted electronically. Each submission must include your essay and entry form with the following information:
  • Your name
  • IIDA Member ID (if a current IIDA Member)
  • Essay title
  • Contact information
  • Name of the university or school you are currently attending
  • Expected degree and graduation date
  • Copy of your current school ID
  • If any of the above documentation is not included, your application will not be reviewed. Any inclusions other than those requested will be removed from your application.
