Opportunity description

The Endangered Elephant Refuge programme in Thailand offers an international volunteering opportunity for individuals interested in animal conservation and caring for Asian elephants rescued from exploitative working and tourism conditions, at a specialized center located in Amphoe Thayang.

Volunteers participate in a range of daily activities that help provide a safe and healthy environment for the elephants, including preparing food, cleaning enclosures, creating enrichment activities, and assisting with habitat maintenance. The programme focuses on responsible and ethical elephant care and does not offer activities such as elephant riding or tourist shows.

Participation can last from 1 to 12 weeks, with start dates available throughout the year, giving applicants flexibility to choose a period that suits their schedule.

  • Cleaning enclosures and areas used by the animals.
  • Cleaning and maintaining water pools.
  • Collecting grass and plants used to feed the elephants.
  • Preparing activities that help enrich the environment and encourage natural elephant behavior.
