Ithra Film Fund Grant to Support Fiction Films, Documentaries, and Animated Films

The Ithra Film Fund offers financial support through its Development Fund Track to help filmmakers and production companies develop their film projects from the treatment stage through to a complete, production-ready screenplay.

The fund aims to help selected projects advance to a more professional stage by providing direct financial support that can be used for screenplay development, refining the treatment and visual vision, and preparing project materials and plans to help projects get ready for later production and implementation stages.

Funding is available for fiction films, documentaries, and animated films, including both short and feature-length projects, making it a suitable opportunity for filmmakers seeking financial support to develop their creative projects and turn their ideas into production-ready works.

• Direct financial support for the development of the film project.
• Funding under the Development Fund Track reaches:
  • USD 15,000 for short films.
  • USD 30,000 for feature-length films.
• Funding is paid in two installments:
  • 60% upon signing the funding agreement, within 45 days.
  • 40% after submission and approval of the developed screenplay by the committee, within 6 months of the first payment.
• The filmmaker retains full intellectual property rights to the work.
• Support for screenplay development, visual treatment, and project implementation planning.
• Funding may support short and feature-length fiction films, documentaries, and animated films.

Applications may be submitted by:

• Saudi production companies that are officially licensed and registered in the Kingdom.
• International production companies, provided they have an official co-production agreement with a licensed Saudi production company, or a Saudi or legally resident co-producer who is part of the core production team.
• Independent filmmakers and directors, provided the application is officially submitted through an eligible production company at the contracting stage.

The project must also have an authentic Saudi identity and story and meet at least two of the following criteria:

• Saudi culture, identity, environment, or history is a central element of the story.
• At least one Saudi national is part of the main creative team, such as the director, writer, or executive producer.
• At least 50% of the scenes are filmed in Saudi Arabia, or the main portion of the animation work is produced locally.
