The Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies invites applicants from all over the world to Klaus Töpfer Sustainability Fellowship in Germany. The fellowship is intended to honor individuals who strive, like Klaus Töpfer, to bring together the fields of science and politics in their work. Meanwhile, the IASS works to support individuals are committed to sustainable development and build bridges between science, politics, and society.

Eligibility criteria
You should meet the following criteria:
- Applicants should be highly talented and have worked for at least ten years on sustainability issues and have the potential to serve as change agents towards sustainable development.
- Applicants should be innovative practitioners in their respective fields in science, the arts, civil society, business, politics or other sectors.
- Have work experience across different countries and cultures.
- Hold the mental openness, inspiration, and creative input.
- The minimum duration of fellowships is three months, and the maximum duration is twelve months.
Please note:
- Fellows are permitted to divide it into several stages. In any case, fellowships in this cohort have to be concluded by 30 June 2023.
- The Fellow should work on site at the IASS during their fellowship and actively contribute to the work of the institute by holding seminars and participating in other IASS activities
- The selection process will involve a committee including external advisors, and a selection is anticipated in early summer, 2021.
The Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies (IASS)
The IASS was founded in Potsdam, Germany, on 2 February 2009. German politician and environmental policy expert Klaus Töpfer was the Institute's founding director. However, It currently includes around 120 employees, including Fellows from over 30 countries. The Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies (IASS) conducts research with the goal of understanding, advancing, and guiding processes of societal change towards sustainable development. The researchers collaborate with diverse actors from science, policy making, and public administration as well as business and civil society to develop a common understanding of sustainability challenges and generate potential solutions. The Institute pursues a research approach that is trans-formative, trans-disciplinary, and co-creative.
