Opportunity description
FilmFreeway is pleased to announce the LA Shorts Screenplay competition, which is launched as a part of the LA Shorts International Film Festival in its 28th year. It is intended to foster emerging screenwriters/filmmakers break into the industry.
Benefits
If you are among the winners, you will have:
- The winning script (if filmed) is guaranteed to screen at the 2025 LA Shorts International Film Festival.
- Finalists are invited to the 2024 LA Shorts International Film Festival and given All-Access Pass.
- Sponsor Goods & Services TBD.
Eligibility criteria
You should follow the following terms:
- All genres are welcome.
- Original scripts that have not started film production are eligible.
- Scripts must have been completed after Jan. 1, 2023.
- Scripts must not exceed 30 pages in length, excluding cover page.
- Must be written in English.
- Entry fee must be submitted for each script, standard is $43.
- Scripts must be submitted in PDF format.
- It's NOT for established professional writers.
- All film shooting must take place after the award presentation. If it is discovered that principal photography begun before the live reading, the screenplay will be disqualified and the screenwriter will forfeit the award.
- All selected films and scripts may be excerpted for LA Shorts publicity purposes.
Note: All writers will receive notice of acceptance or non-acceptance via FilmFreeway.

- Regular Deadline: March 29, 2024
- Late Deadline: May 24, 2024
- Notification Date: July 1, 2024
