Opportunity description
UNV offers a volunteer opportunity in Iraq for the position of legal officer – analysis and investigation. This volunteer will be expected to start date on 01/04/2023 for 6 months with the possibility of extension. You will have the chance as an active UNITAD team member to render efficient, timely, responsive, client-friendly, and high-quality support to UNITAD and its beneficiaries in the accomplishment of her/his functions.
Duties & responsibilities
You will responsible for:
- Reviews evidence to conduct a factual analysis of sexual and gender-based crimes and crimes against children.
- Based on the review of the evidence, prepares narrative of facts reports identifying gaps of information and investigative leads.
- Carry out legal research and prepare memoranda on legal issues to support the work of the Unit as well as respective Field Investigation Units.
- Draft notes to file and records of meetings and interviews held with relevant groups and individuals, including victims and witnesses.
- Assists in the compilation, organization, and storage of evidence and information obtained by their respective Field Investigation Units, in consultation with the Archive and Records Section and the Information Systems Management Unit of UNITAD.
- Performs any other duties as required.
Eligibility criteria
You must have:
- 3 years of experience in legal experience in a relevant organization including an international court, international accountability mechanism, or international organization.
- Professional qualification in law, which is a strong asset.
- Experience in criminal investigations including analysis of evidence.
- Excellent written skills including drafting and reporting skills.
- Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing.
- Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment.
- Proficiency with MS Office applications, and good general computer literacy.
- University degree in law. Specialization in international criminal law or international humanitarian law.
- Fluent in English.
- Arabic, and Kurdish, Level: Working knowledge.
- Professionalism, and commitment to continuous learning.
- Teamwork and respect for diversity.
- Planning and organizing skills.
- Communication skills and flexibility.
Please note: Candidate must be a national of a country other than the country of assignment.
