Opportunity description

Meiji University is a private research university located in Tokyo, founded in 1881. It is considered one of Japan’s most prestigious educational institutions. Meiji University offers the International Students Incentive Scholarship Program, designed for outstanding international students facing financial difficulties. The scholarship may include partial or full tuition fee waivers, exemption from admission and examination fees, a monthly stipend, as well as international travel expenses to and from Japan.

Application Deadline

Applications must be submitted by the same deadline as the academic admission applications, and all required scholarship documents must be provided within this period.

Graduate Programs (Meiji University – Advanced Research Courses):

  • First Intake (Fall 2025): Application deadline is Friday, May 9, 2025.
  • Second Intake (Spring 2026): Application deadline is Friday, November 7, 2025.

For Undergraduate Programs (Bachelor’s):

  • For Global Japanese Studies Program (taught entirely in English), applications open in late August 2025 and close on September 3, 2025.
  • For other faculties such as Economics or Media and Communication, the deadline is also September 3, 2025.

Eligibility criteria

  • Applicants must be from a country listed as an Official Development Assistance (ODA) recipient.
  • Must be registered with “student” status in Japan at the time of application.
  • Must demonstrate strong academic performance.
  • Must not be receiving any other scholarships simultaneously.
  • Must show motivation to participate in international activities and strengthen ties between Japan and their home country.
