MPOWER Financing offers the Global Citizen Scholarship to support international students and DACA students who are studying or have been accepted into full-time degree programs at MPOWER-supported universities or colleges in the United States or Canada.
The scholarship aims to support students with a global vision and academic ambition who seek to create a positive impact in fields such as science, technology, business, public policy, and entrepreneurship.
Selection Criteria
Winners are selected based only on the submitted essay, which is evaluated according to:
- The quality of the essay and clarity of ideas.
- The strength of the student’s goals and future vision.
- The level of English communication skills.
- The connection between the field of study and the student’s goals and ambitions.
- The applicant’s ability to become an impactful scientist, entrepreneur, leader, or changemaker.
Benefits
- The grand prize winner receives a scholarship award of USD 8,000.
- The second-place winner receives a scholarship award of USD 2,000.
- The third-place winner receives a scholarship award of USD 1,000.
- The scholarship is available to international students and DACA students in the United States or Canada.
- Applicants are not required to have an MPOWER loan to apply.
- The scholarship helps reduce part of the cost of university studies.
- The scholarship amount is sent directly to the university or college where the student has been accepted.
- The application is completed fully online through the MPOWER website.
- The scholarship is open to different fields of study, as long as the student is studying full-time at an MPOWER-supported educational institution.
Eligibility criteria
- The applicant must be accepted or enrolled in a full-time degree program at an MPOWER-supported university or college in the United States or Canada.
- The applicant must be an international student who is legally allowed to study in the United States or Canada.
- For study in the United States, the applicant must have one of the following:
- A valid visa that allows study in the United States.
- DACA status.
- U.S. permanent residency / Green Card.
- For study in Canada, the applicant must have one of the following:
- A valid Canadian study permit.
- Canadian permanent residency.
- Applicants are not required to be borrowers or applicants for an MPOWER loan.
- U.S. citizens studying in the United States are not eligible to apply.
- Canadian citizens studying in Canada are not eligible to apply.
- The student visa must be stamped in the passport before the application deadline.
