The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is accepting applications for a remote United Nations volunteering opportunity titled Support Article Development, aimed at supporting the communication and advocacy activities of the UN Human Rights Office in New York.
This is one of the international online volunteering opportunities suitable for individuals with experience in writing, content creation, media, and communications who wish to use their skills to help raise awareness of human rights issues. The volunteer will work with the Media Officer and relevant colleagues to prepare articles and news stories for publication on the OHCHR website.

Duties & responsibilities
The volunteer will be expected to:
- Assist in drafting articles and news stories for the OHCHR website.
- Produce up to 5 articles or news stories during the volunteering assignment.
- Develop creative ideas for digital storytelling.
- Help present complex human rights issues in a clear, accessible, and engaging way for the public.
- Work under the supervision of the Public Information Officer.
- Coordinate and collaborate with relevant colleagues at the OHCHR New York Office.
- Meet deadlines and deliver accurate, concise, and high-quality content.
Eligibility criteria
Applicants are preferably expected to have:
- Professional writing experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Fluency in English, which is an essential requirement.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- The ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint.
- The ability to work independently.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- A proven ability to produce accurate, concise, and high-quality work within required deadlines.
- A strong background in Media & Communications is considered an asset.
