The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme is offering an online volunteering opportunity with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Iraq to translate a strategic assessment report from English into Sorani Kurdish.
The two selected volunteers will work with UNDP’s communications and project teams to produce an accurate, publication-ready translation that reflects official terminology and the institutional writing style used by the Kurdistan Regional Government in Erbil.
The report covers technical and policy-related topics connected to governance, crisis management, disaster risk reduction, public administration, and institutional reform.

Duties & responsibilities
- Translate the strategic assessment report fully and accurately from English into Sorani Kurdish.
- Use official Kurdish terminology consistent with the standards of the Kurdistan Regional Government in Erbil.
- Translate technical terms related to governance, crisis management, public administration, and institutional reform.
- Proofread and edit the translated text to ensure linguistic accuracy and readability.
- Maintain consistent terminology throughout all sections of the report.
- Preserve the report’s original structure, headings, tables, references, and formatting.
- Collaborate with the UNDP team in Iraq to incorporate the required feedback and revisions.
- Deliver a high-quality final version that is ready for publication.
Eligibility criteria
Applicants must have:
- Native or near-native proficiency in Sorani Kurdish.
- Excellent command of English.
- Proven experience translating technical documents or policy reports from English into Kurdish.
- Experience translating policy papers, strategic assessments, research studies, or institutional publications.
- Knowledge of the official terminology used by the Kurdistan Regional Government.
- Strong proofreading and editing skills in Sorani Kurdish.
- The ability to maintain consistent terminology across long documents.
- The ability to work independently and meet the specified deadline.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and document formatting.
