The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), in cooperation with the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme, is offering a paid national volunteer opportunity for the position of Child Protection Officer in Amman, Jordan.
The volunteer will work within UNICEF’s Child Protection Programme in coordination with the Education Programme, the Ministry of Social Development, the Ministry of Education, schools, social workers, and implementing partners, as part of the Schools for Learning and Resilience (ST4LR) initiative.
The assignment focuses on supporting approximately 300 targeted schools to strengthen their capacity to identify children at risk of dropping out of school at an early stage, develop school-based early warning systems, and improve referral mechanisms to child protection, social support, and psychosocial services. The role also aims to promote safer and more inclusive learning environments.

Duties & responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting the implementation of school dropout prevention initiatives in targeted schools.
- Contributing to the development, implementation, and monitoring of Early Warning Systems (EWS) to identify students at risk of dropping out.
- Analyzing attendance and academic performance data to help identify children at risk.
- Supporting teachers, school principals, and counsellors in developing individualized support plans for students.
- Strengthening coordination between schools, child protection services, psychosocial support services, and social assistance providers.
- Developing and strengthening referral pathways for children to appropriate services and service providers.
- Training and supporting teachers, counsellors, and school leaders on child protection, positive discipline, safeguarding, and safe referral practices.
- Supporting school- and community-based initiatives that promote safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environments.
- Monitoring school counselling and psychosocial support services for children experiencing bullying, violence, family conflict, or psychological distress.
- Contributing to awareness campaigns on violence prevention, positive parenting, child rights, inclusion, and child well-being.
- Collecting and analyzing data related to child protection and school retention.
- Conducting field visits to schools and communities to monitor the quality of implementation.
- Preparing technical reports, briefs, presentations, success stories, and lessons learned.
Eligibility criteria
The opportunity requires at least 3 years of relevant professional experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Child protection.
- Safeguarding and protection from abuse.
- Education.
- Social work.
- Psychosocial support.
- Case Management.
- Or other fields related to the protection of children and vulnerable groups.
Applicants are also expected to have experience or knowledge in:
- Programmes addressing violence against children.
- Child safety in schools.
- Child well-being.
- School dropout prevention or student retention in education.
- Working with vulnerable groups.
- Coordinating with government authorities, schools, non-governmental organizations, and community-based organizations.
- Referral mechanisms, case management principles, and child protection standards.
- Delivering training sessions and capacity-building workshops.
- Monitoring, reporting, and data analysis.
- Using Microsoft Office applications.
