Opportunity description

Australian Book Review (ABR) has announced the opening of entries for the 23rd Peter Porter Poetry Prize 2027, one of Australia’s leading literary awards dedicated to unpublished poems.

The competition invites poets from around the world to submit an original poem in English. The poem may address any subject and be written in any poetic style, provided that it does not exceed 60 lines.

Eligibility criteria

  3. The poem must be submitted in English.
  4. There is no minimum or maximum age limit.
  5. Emerging and professional writers may apply.
  6. The poem may address any subject and use any poetic style.
  7. The poem must not exceed 60 lines.
  8. The poem must be original and previously unpublished.
  9. The poem must not have appeared in a book, magazine, newspaper, website, or public platform.
  10. Generative AI tools may not be used to write the poem or produce the submitted content.

Participation Fees

  1. The entry fee is AUD 30 per poem.
  2. The fee is AUD 20 for current Australian Book Review subscribers.
  3. Submitting more than one poem requires paying a separate fee for each entry.
