Opportunity description
Folger invites artists from various categories all over the world to fellowship opportunities that may be undertaken between July 2022 and June 2023. The Folger Institute Artist Research Fellowship is open to artists working in all media whose work would benefit from significant primary research. This includes, but is not limited to, visual artists, writers, dramaturgs, playwrights, filmmakers, and composers. This is your chance to get funding and global communication.

- $3,500 for four weeks of work away from the Folger.

- Meet virtually with Folger Theatre, and Poetry professionals, as well as Folger curators, librarians, and conservators, as relevant.
- Participation in scholarly and community-building programs with other Folger Fellows.
- Exposure on the Folger website, social media, and newsletters.
- J1 Visa sponsorship, if needed.

Eligibility criteria
You must follow the following terms:
- Open to scholars of any nationality.
- You should hold the Ph.D. by the time they begin your residency.
- Applications from librarians and curators should hold a terminal degree in their field.
- The fellowship also sponsors international scholars under the J-1 visa.
- Applicants for the Artist Research Fellowship should describe their training and level of industry-specific experience in their CV.
- Folger staff, current consultants, and members of the Folger Shakespeare Library Board of Governors are not eligible to apply for Folger fellowships.
- The Folger will only award two fellowships per research project.
- Travel to work in archives, libraries, or museums is not a requirement of fellowship support and will not be the basis of an award for 2022–2023.
- All Folger fellows are required to abide by the Folger Institute’s Code of Professional Conduct.
