UNICEF Guinea-Bissau is accepting applications for a remote United Nations volunteering opportunity titled Write and Review Documents and Articles about UNICEF, aimed at supporting the organization’s work in writing, editing, content review, and the production of media and awareness materials related to UNICEF programmes and children’s issues.
This is one of the international online volunteering opportunities suitable for individuals with professional experience or an academic background in media, journalism, literature, marketing, creative and technical writing, public health, and social sciences. Volunteers will contribute to preparing and editing a variety of materials, including articles, human-interest stories, website pages, reports, donor-focused materials, and digital communication content.
UNICEF Guinea-Bissau is seeking 4 volunteers to work fully online for 12 weeks, for approximately 16 to 20 hours per week, contributing to the documentation of UNICEF activities and programmes, strengthening communication and advocacy efforts, and raising awareness of issues affecting children.

Duties & responsibilities
The volunteer will contribute to:
- Writing, editing, and reviewing texts for UNICEF documents and communication materials.
- Producing clear, concise, and high-quality content.
- Contributing to story development using information and interviews related to communities, service providers, government entities, and beneficiaries, while handling sensitive topics appropriately.
- Collaborating with photographers when needed to prepare compelling captions and descriptions for images used in stories and photo essays.
- Reviewing, editing, and compiling materials used in Knowledge Products.
- Ensuring clear content structure, logical flow, and consistency of key ideas and themes.
- Preparing digital content for different channels.
- Writing Project Factsheets, website pages, and stories of change.
- Preparing texts such as introductions and forewords for knowledge products.
- Writing stories and short-form content for the website.
- Following UNICEF’s writing style and editorial guidelines.
- Responding to feedback from the UNICEF team and making the required revisions.
- Participating in multiple rounds of review and editing when necessary.
Eligibility criteria
Applicants must have:
- At least a bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields or a related discipline:
- Communications and Media.
- Literature.
- Marketing.
- Journalism.
- Advertising.
- Creative or Technical Writing.
- Public Health.
- Social Sciences.
- A diploma in a relevant field combined with appropriate professional experience may be considered as an alternative to a bachelor’s degree.
- Strong ability to write, edit, and prepare high-quality reports.
- The ability to conduct research and interviews when needed to develop communication materials.
- Strong analytical, planning, and effective oral and written communication skills.
- Fluency in English.
Preference will be given to applicants who have:
- Experience writing for national or international organizations.
- Experience in copy editing.
- Experience writing about the social development sector.
- A working knowledge of Portuguese, which is considered an asset but is not mandatory.
