Opportunity description

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has opened applications for an international online volunteering opportunity to support humanitarian response activities in South Sudan. The assignment is offered through the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) program and will last for 12 weeks.

The opportunity aims to engage experienced volunteers in supporting humanitarian programs related to reproductive health, the protection of women and girls, and emergency response. Volunteers will work remotely in collaboration with the UNFPA team in South Sudan.

The volunteer will contribute to monitoring humanitarian activities, preparing reports, analysing needs, supporting coordination with partners and humanitarian actors, and helping develop emergency response plans. These tasks will contribute to improving the quality of humanitarian programs and strengthening preparedness for future crises.

The opportunity also allows volunteers to gain practical experience with a United Nations agency in an international and multicultural environment while contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals and promoting the health and well-being of affected communities.

Duties & responsibilities

  • Supporting the implementation and monitoring of humanitarian activities in line with UNFPA response plans.
  • Contributing to humanitarian needs assessments and analysis of field conditions.
  • Preparing field reports and periodic updates.
  • Supporting coordination with partners and humanitarian organizations.
  • Monitoring the progress of humanitarian activities and identifying challenges and risks.
  • Contributing to donor reports, summaries, and humanitarian updates.
  • Supporting emergency preparedness and contingency planning.
  • Participating in inter-agency meetings and humanitarian coordination mechanisms.
  • Monitoring the quality of activity implementation and ensuring compliance with humanitarian standards.
  • Supporting the monitoring of reproductive health supplies and dignity kit distribution when required.
  • Documenting lessons learned and best practices.
  • Reviewing work plan implementation reports and providing recommendations.
  • Supporting the integration of gender equality, protection, inclusion, and accountability into humanitarian programs.

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must:

  • Hold a Master’s degree in public health, humanitarian affairs, development studies, international relations, social sciences, or a related field.
  • Have at least three years of experience in humanitarian programs, emergency response, or crisis management.
  • Be familiar with humanitarian coordination mechanisms and international standards.
  • Have experience implementing or monitoring humanitarian programs and preparing reports.
  • Possess strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Be able to manage multiple tasks and work effectively under pressure.
  • Be fluent in English.
  • Knowledge of Arabic is considered an advantage.
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office and digital collaboration tools.
  • Be able to work independently and as part of a multicultural team.
  • Demonstrate a strong interest in volunteering and the objectives of the United Nations.
