The International Youth Library (IYL) in Munich, Germany, offers an international research fellowship for researchers, graduates, PhD students, and doctoral degree holders interested in children’s and young adult literature and illustration.
The program allows participants to stay in Munich for a period ranging from 6 weeks to 3 months to conduct a research project at one of the world’s largest libraries dedicated to children’s and young adult literature, which houses around 650,000 books in 260 languages.
The fellowship aims to support academic research, encourage young researchers, and promote international academic cooperation and cultural exchange, while providing a specialized research environment at Blutenburg Castle in Munich.

Eligibility criteria
Applicants must:
- Be a graduate, PhD student, doctoral researcher, or PhD holder.
- Authors may also be eligible to apply if they need access to international resources related to a publication project they are working on.
- Be non-German citizens.
- Have a research project in the field of children’s and young adult literature or illustration.
- Have already completed some preliminary work on the proposed project before the fellowship period.
- Have a sufficient command of English and/or German.
