Sustainable Materials Research Fellowship for Artists and Designers in the Netherlands 2027

The Jan van Eyck Academy in the Netherlands is offering two research fellowships through its Future Materials program to support artists and designers working in the field of sustainable materials research. The fellowship is intended for individuals whose artistic or design projects focus on developing bio-based and sustainable materials or creating alternatives to toxic and fossil fuel-derived materials commonly used in art and design. Fellowship Areas

• Fashion & Textile Material Fellowship: Research on bio-based and sustainable materials for fashion and textile applications.
• Future Materials Fellowship: Development of sustainable materials or production processes that can be applied across various fields of art and design.

• Monthly stipend of €1,750.
• Project budget of €2,250 to support research and development activities.
• Private studio space throughout the fellowship period.
• Access to the academy’s laboratories, technical facilities, experts, and advisors.
• Opportunities to collaborate with research institutions and industry partners specializing in sustainable materials.
• Exemption from the academy’s annual registration fees.

• Open to artists, designers, and creative practitioners from around the world.
• Applicants must have an existing materials research project that can be further developed during the fellowship period.
• Good knowledge of material properties, behavior, and contexts of use is required.
• Demonstrated artistic or professional experience in sustainable materials research is highly desirable.

Application Fee

• A €50 application fee is required to submit an application.
• Fee waivers are available for eligible applicants from selected countries.

Fellowship Duration : The fellowship will run from January 15, 2027, to December 15, 2027.
