The Caterpillar Poetry Prize and a Chance to Win 1000 Euros

Caterpillar Poetry is pleased to announce the competition edition of this year 2023. This is an annual prize for an unpublished poem written by an adult for children aged 7–11. If have you written a poem you think would appeal to children, this is your chance to participate and win unique prizes.

If you are among the winners, you will have one of the following prizes:

• 1st prize €1,000 plus a week at Circle of Misse in France
• 2nd prize €500
• 3rd prize €250
• The winning poems will be published in the Irish Times online. 

Please note: The winner will be announced in June 2023.

You should follow the following rules:  

• The Prize is open to anyone over the age of 16.
• Entries must be entirely the work of the entrant and must never have been published, self-published, published online, or broadcast.
• You can enter as many poems as you like.
• There is no line limit.   
• The name of the author must not appear on the same page as the poem.
• Entries must be in English, typed, with each entry on a new sheet.
• Entries will not be returned, so make sure you keep a copy.
• No corrections can be made after receipt, or fees refunded.
• The entry fee is €15 per poem.

About Caterpillar Poetry: 

The Caterpillar is a magazine of poems, stories, and art, created by grown-ups for children. It is the younger sibling of The Moth, an art & literature magazine for grown-ups. It is for kids between the ages of 7 and 11(ish), appears four times a year ‒ in March, June, September, and December ‒ and is jam-packed full of entertainment.
