Opportunity description
Henshaw Press is pleased to announce the edition of this year's competition in June, entitled The Henshaw Press Short Story Competition. This is your chance to share your best works that embody your creativity.
Benefits
If you are among the winners, you will have:
- 1st Prize £200
- 2nd Prize £100
- 3rd Prize £50
- Winning entrants will be offered the opportunity to have their stories included in a Henshaw anthology.
Eligibility criteria
You should follow the following terms:
- Entries must be a fictional short story of up to 2,000 words on any theme.
- Open to anyone over 16 years of age.
- Entries must be double-spaced and page numbered with the title on the first page.
- All entries must be the original work of the author and must not have been published before the date of submission, either in print or online.
- Any stories with author names and details on the same document as the story cannot be accepted.
- No more than FIVE STORIES can be submitted from the same writer per competition.
- Entries received after the closing date will not be considered.
- Authors must keep a copy of their entry; manuscripts cannot be returned.
- The judges’ view is final, and no correspondence will be entered into in connection with the award of the prizes.
- The author retains the copyright for their story, but by entering the competition, the author gives the publisher their consent to reproduce the story on the website.
- Entries may be made by email as a Word document (PDFs cannot be accepted).
Please note:
- The entry fee is £6 and the fee for a critique is £14.
- Entries suspected of using AI technology will be disqualified.
About Henshaw Press:
It is a small group of writers, editors, lecturers, and of course readers who wish to actively support creative writing. It runs quarterly competitions throughout the year. Its aim is to encourage as wide a range of writing as possible and competitions are open for any subject and any style.
