Opportunity description
This program was launched in 2011 as part of the implementation of the International Decade for People of African Descent. It is managed by the Anti-Racial Discrimination Section of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR). The program aims to empower participants to promote and protect the civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights of people of African descent in their respective countries.
The OHCHR Fellowship Programme for People of African Descent 2025 is a fully funded training opportunity held in Geneva, Switzerland. It aims to strengthen the capacity of individuals of African descent living outside the African continent in the field of human rights.
Field of the Fellowship
The fellowship focuses on the promotion and protection of human rights for people of African descent, with an emphasis on combating racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia, and related intolerance.

Eligibility criteria
- The applicant must be of African descent and reside outside the African continent.
- Have at least 4 years of work experience in the field of the rights of people of African descent.
- Proficiency in English.
- Ability to attend the full duration of the program and obtain a visa to Switzerland.
- Submission of an official letter from an organization working in the field of the rights of people of African descent confirming the applicant’s role.
