Opportunity description
The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is offering an international volunteer opportunity for the position of Human Rights Associate in Aden, Yemen, under the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme.
The opportunity is intended for individuals interested in human rights, protection, law, research, monitoring, and documentation. The volunteer will contribute to monitoring and documenting human rights conditions and violations, preparing reports and briefing notes, and supporting humanitarian work and coordination with relevant stakeholders and partners.
The volunteer will also support OHCHR’s work on minority rights, protection of civilians, and human rights in humanitarian response, in addition to participating in field visits, capacity-building activities, and training.

Duties & responsibilities
- Monitor, document, and prepare reports on human rights violations.
- Support work related to minority rights.
- Contribute to human rights activities within the humanitarian response.
- Participate in humanitarian coordination mechanisms such as the Protection Cluster.
- Support the monitoring and analysis of civilian casualties.
- Prepare periodic reports, briefing notes, background documents, and summaries.
- Assist in preparing presentations, talking points, and communication materials.
- Organize workshops, seminars, meetings, and capacity-building programs.
- Support the management of basic human rights-related data.
- Conduct and participate in field visits when required.
- Carry out additional human rights-related tasks as requested by the office.
Eligibility criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be between 18 and 60 years old.
- Hold a nationality different from that of the country of assignment; applicants must not be Yemeni nationals.
- Hold a bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields:
- Human rights.
- Law.
- Political science.
- Development.
- Economics.
- Or another relevant field.
- Have at least 2 years of professional experience in:
- Human rights.
- Protection.
- Monitoring and documentation.
- Research.
- Report writing.
- Or a related field.
- Be fluent in Arabic.
- Fluency in English is considered a desirable asset.
