The United Nations Volunteers Program is offering a volunteer opportunity as a Business Support Assistant (Nutritionist) in Lebanon. You will be part of the World Food Program in Lebanon, within the nutrition unit that works to mainstream nutrition-related programs across the program's various activities. You will support the nutrition unit in implementing its nutrition initiatives and programs in the program's various activities targeting food-insecure refugees and Lebanese communities living in extreme poverty, school-age children, and participants in livelihood and resilience programs that seek to strengthen human capacity and resilience.
Duties & responsibilities
You will be responsible for all of the following:
- Support the Chief of Nutrition in reviewing nutrition-related data available internally from the Research, Evaluation, Monitoring, (RAM), and Gender units and identifying gaps that need to be addressed in all program activities.
- Assisting the head of the nutrition department in preparing a gender/nutrition study.
- Assist the Nutrition Officer in updating the Nutrition Manual and ensure that the Nutrition Folder is up-to-date, clean, and organized when needed, in order to ensure smooth access to the various documents.
- Assisting the Head of the Nutrition Department in developing the nutrition strategy in Lebanon.
- Contribute to the development of information, education, and communication (IEC) materials on nutrition to share with partners and internal staff when needed.
- Contribute to the preparation of nutrition education sessions for WFP staff according to the schedule on pre-defined topics with the Chief of Nutrition and in collaboration with the staff advisor.
- Perform any other related tasks that may be required or assigned to you by your supervisor.
- You should devote a portion of your work time to some of the following suggested activities:
- Enhance your knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteering by reading relevant UNV and external publications and actively participating in UNV activities (eg in events celebrating International Volunteer Day).
- Learn about traditional and/or local forms of volunteering in the host country.
- Contribute and submit articles/writing related to field experiences to UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.
- Assist with the UNV Friends Program for newly arrived UNVs.
- Promote or advise local groups in the use of the Online Volunteering Program, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering Service whenever technically feasible.
Eligibility criteria
You must have:
- You must be between 18 and 26 years old.
- You must be a national or legal resident of the country of assignment.
- 2 years of experience in community nutrition, or health/community-related projects.
- It is preferred that you possess a master's degree in the field of nutrition.
- Motivation to contribute to a healthier and more mindful approach to nutrition in the humanitarian and development fields to serve others.
- Understanding or experience of community projects and the projects' life cycle.
- Understanding of basic research principles, and preliminary experience in data analysis.
- Willingness to contribute and work as part of a team.
- Flexibility and openness to learning and gaining new experiences.
- Respect for diversity and the ability to adapt to other cultures, environments, and living conditions.
- Good writing and communication skills (including translation from English to Arabic and vice versa). Excellent drafting and reporting skills.
- High interpersonal skills; cultural and social sensitivity; The ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of different stakeholders, including community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at various levels; Familiarity with C4D tools and approaches.
- Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment. Ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national staff.
- Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision. Ability to work to tight deadlines.
- Proficiency in both English and Arabic languages.
- It is preferred that you have a working knowledge of the French language.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in the fields of nutrition and health.
